Curriculum Introduction
Curriculum Intent – the Paget Curriculum
At Paget Primary School our curriculum is designed to engage and excite our children’s curiosity about the world around them.
It provides all our children with a rich, varied, broad and balanced programme that meets the requirements of the National Curriculum and the Birmingham RE Agreed Syllabus as well as providing other aspects designed to meet the needs of all Paget children.
At the heart of all we do is the Values Based Education approach. Values underpin all aspects of school life at Paget.
The Paget Curriculum is the minimum expectation of all that the children will experience during their time at Paget. It provides the children with a wide range of opportunities that will give them the values, skills, knowledge and understanding to grow and develop into successful learners and responsible citizens. Each subject is planned so that it links with prior learning and concepts children have already experienced, this means that as children travel through the school their knowledge is deepened and embedded.
For a more in depth look at our curriculum please see the documents that explain how we organise learning at Paget, alternatively contact us with your curriculum enquiry where you will be directed to the relevant member of staff.
Early Years
At Paget Primary we aim to provide the highest quality care and education for all our children thereby giving them a strong foundation for their future learning.
We create a safe and happy environment with motivating and enjoyable learning experiences that enable children to become confident and independent. We value the individual child and work alongside parents and others to meet their needs and help every child to reach their full potential.
As outlined in the EYFS ‘Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances.’
We adhere to the Statutory Framework of the EYFS and the four guiding principles that shape practice within Early Years settings:
- Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
- Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.
- Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers.
- Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates.
Children are provided with a range of rich, meaningful first-hand experiences in which children explore, think creatively and are active. We aim to develop and foster positive attitudes towards learning, confidence, communication and physical development.
The characteristics of effective learning support the children in becoming motivated and effective learners. Children will ‘play and explore’, having a go at using all available resources; developing their interests and experiences. Children will develop resilience and enjoy achievements through ‘active learning’ and will make links, explore their ideas and strategies for problem solving through ‘creating and thinking critically’.
