Year 3
Welcome to Year 3.
This year is the start of Key Stage 2 and is particularly important for the children because they move from infants to juniors. We help the children become more independent and to take more responsibility for their own learning.
Throughout the year we will teach a variety of exciting topics and expose children to a wide variety of opportunities through the Paget Curriculum Guarantee. Through these we will build on your child’s education and develop learning in all areas. Some of our brilliant topics include: ‘Stone Age to Iron Age’, ‘The Romans’ and ‘Volcanoes’.
It is the responsibility of Year 3 to organise Harvest at Paget. The children discuss how to gather donations, who to donate to and how to promote it. Look out for Year 3’s assembly in October.
Year 3 is the first year that the children learn a Modern Foreign Language. They begin with early French, starting with key vocabulary and progressing onto simple grammar. The children also are lucky enough to take part in whole class music lessons. The children learn the Djembe Drum and Steel Pan.
To support learning at home, the children have access to Oxford Owl, this gives an opportunity for you and your child to read lots of different texts. We encourage children to read every night and record this in their reading records. There is also TT Rock Stars, which can help boost your child’s time tables ready for the Year 4 times table test.
The teaching staff in Year 3 are Mr Harris (Class Teacher), Mr Collas (Class Teacher) and Miss Lowndes (Teaching Assistant).
We look forward to helping your child thrive in all areas and seeing them grow from an infant pupil into a responsible junior pupil.
